This book was very good direct to the point, that s probably why it is very short But since this book s objective is to cover Santa Anna s military career, I can see the wisdom of keeping this book to 90 pages of actual text I chose this book based upon the shortness as I needed a small getaway from my study of Russian history The man himself is amazing in the fact that he was able to survive so long militarily politically If anything his ego self interest were his biggest faults sad This book was very good direct to the point, that s probably why it is very short But since this book s objective is to cover Santa Anna s military career, I can see the wisdom of keeping this book to 90 pages of actual text I chose this book based upon the shortness as I needed a small getaway from my study of Russian history The man himself is amazing in the fact that he was able to survive so long militarily politically If anything his ego self interest were his biggest faults sadly Mexico paid the price for them The book does an excellent job of covering his military history as well as just enough politics to give enough context to Santa Anna s life There is one other biography of him that I found maybe one day when I set myself to task on Latin American history again I shall look it up

This is a short perhaps too short and informative book about one of Mexico sinteresting figures Santa Anna was president 11 times, once led a coup against himself, held a state funeral for his amputated leg, crushed the Americans at the Alamo, and played a major role in the popularization of chewing gum in the United States Fascinating figure.
